Signs the battery is going
A fob battery typically lasts two to four years. If yours is showing these signs it is very likely the battery rather than a failed fob.
- You have to stand closer to the car than you used to
- The fob works sometimes and not others
- A low key battery warning on the dashboard
- Buttons need a firmer or repeated press
- The car no longer detects a proximity key in your pocket

Common questions
Can I change a fob battery myself?
On many fobs, yes, and we'll happily tell you how over the phone. Some sealed proximity keys need care to open without damage, which is where we can help.
Will I lose the programming when the battery is changed?
On almost all modern vehicles, no. The programming is stored in a chip that doesn't rely on the battery.
My car won't start and the key battery is dead. What now?
Most push-button vehicles have a backup method, often holding the fob against a specific spot on the steering column or console. Check your manual, and call us if it doesn't work.
