We remove the broken piece without damaging the lock, then cut you a replacement key on the spot.
Stop before you make it worse
The instinct is to grab pliers or superglue. Both usually make the job harder and more expensive. Pliers tend to push the fragment deeper and scar the lock face; glue can bond the fragment to the internal pins and turn a straightforward extraction into a full lock replacement.
Leave it alone and call us. Extraction is routine when the lock hasn't been disturbed.
Why keys snap
Almost always metal fatigue. A key that has been turning stiffly, or that you have been wiggling to get the car to start, is warning you. Keys rarely break without having felt wrong for weeks beforehand.
If your key is turning stiffly now, replacing it is much cheaper than extraction plus a possible barrel repair later.

Can you get a key out of the ignition?
Yes, that's one of the most common extractions we do.
Will the lock still work afterwards?
In most cases yes. If the barrel was already damaged we'll tell you and quote the repair separately.
Can you cut a new key from the broken pieces?
Often yes, and if not we can cut to the vehicle's key code instead.
