A locksmith instead of the dealership
Most people's first instinct after losing a car key is to ring the dealership. That usually means arranging a tow, leaving the car for a day or more, and paying considerably more than the job needs to cost.
We do the same work at your vehicle, wherever it is parked. Our vans carry key blanks, cutting machines and the diagnostic equipment needed to program keys through your car's own system. In most cases you are back on the road within the hour.
What kind of key do you have?
It helps to know before you call, because it affects both the price and how long the job takes.
- Plain blade key — no chip, older vehicles. Quickest and cheapest to replace.
- Transponder key — a blade with a chip in the head. Must be programmed as well as cut.
- Flip or switchblade key — blade folds into the fob. Often repairable when the hinge fails.
- Remote fob — separate remote for central locking, sometimes combined with the key.
- Proximity or smart key — you keep it in your pocket and press a button to start. Entirely electronic and the most involved to replace.
If you only have one key
Get a spare cut before you need it. A spare made while you still have a working key is substantially cheaper than a replacement generated from scratch after the last one is gone, and it is done at a time that suits you rather than at midnight in a car park.
This is the single piece of advice we give most often, and the one people most often wish they had taken.

Can you come to me, or do I bring the car to you?
We come to you. We're a fully mobile service and we work at your vehicle wherever it is parked — home, work site, roadside or car park.
Do you cover my make of car?
We cover every mainstream make sold in Australia and most others. If there's a vehicle we genuinely can't help with, we'll tell you on the phone rather than charging a call-out to find out.
How much does a car key cost?
It depends on the key type. A plain blade is inexpensive; a proximity smart key costs considerably more because of the hardware and the programming. Call with your make, model and year and we'll give you a firm price.
What do you need to see before cutting a key?
Photo identification and proof you own the vehicle. It's the same check that stops someone else having a key cut to your car.
Can you erase a lost key so it no longer starts my car?
Yes, and we'd recommend it if a key has been lost or stolen. We can remove it from the vehicle's memory when we program the new one.
Are you available at night and on weekends?
Yes. The service line runs 24 hours, seven days, including public holidays.
