If someone is locked in a car, call 000 first

If a child or an animal is shut inside a vehicle, particularly in warm weather, ring emergency services immediately rather than waiting for a locksmith. They will get there faster and they are equipped for it. Call us afterwards if the car still needs attention.

For an empty locked car, a locksmith is the right call and usually the cheaper one.

What to do while you wait

• Move somewhere well lit and safe, especially late at night
• Check every other door and window before assuming you're locked out
• Ring anyone who might hold a spare key
• Don't let a bystander try it with a coat hanger — modern car doors are full of wiring and sensors, and improvised attempts often cost more than the call-out
• Have identification ready that links you to the vehicle or address

What it costs at 3am

More than the same job at 3pm, and we will tell you the figure on the phone before we leave. What we will not do is quote one price to get the job and charge another once we arrive and you have no realistic alternative.
